Prinsloo 7s: KCB relinquish National Circuit title with Quins, Kabras locked in major battle

As the 2024 SportPesa National 7s Circuit reaches its thrilling conclusion at the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru, the race for the overall title has come down to two fierce rivals: Kenya Harlequin (Quins) and Kabras Sugar.

Both teams are poised to go head-to-head in the final stretch, with Quins holding a slight advantage in the quest for glory.

Quins, the current circuit leaders, have been in scintillating form throughout the Prinsloo 7s, winning all their pool games.

They outclassed Menengai Oilers, Mombasa, and Zetech Oaks, topping Pool A to secure their place in the main cup quarterfinals. With these dominant performances, Quins now find themselves in a strong position to clinch their first overall title since 2012.

To secure the 2024 SportPesa 7s Circuit title, Quins need to advance to at least the semifinals at the Prinsloo 7s. Given their current form, they are well on course to accomplish this and reclaim their place at the summit of Kenyan rugby sevens.

Kabras Sugar, the other title contender, have also been in impressive form, winning all their pool matches against Stallions, Kabarak, and Daystar Falcons. Topping Pool D, Kabras have booked their place in the main cup quarterfinals, setting up an exciting showdown in the final stages of the competition.

For Kabras to stand a chance at overtaking Quins and securing the overall title, they will need to win the Prinsloo 7s and hope for a slip-up from their rivals. With both teams showing relentless determination and a strong desire to win, the Prinsloo 7s is shaping up to be a memorable finale to the 2024 SportPesa National 7s Circuit.

The reigning champions KCB were eliminated in the group stage at the Prinsloo 7s, marking the end of their title defence and guaranteeing a new winner for the 2024 season. KCB’s exit came after a dramatic day in Pool B, where they finished third behind Nakuru and Nondies.

Despite a promising start with a 15-0 win over Mwamba, the Bankers stumbled in their second match, losing 20-21 to Nakuru. In a must-win final pool game against Nondies, KCB could only manage a 7-7 draw, sealing their fate.

With KCB now out of the running, the focus shifts entirely to the battle between Quins and Kabras, as both teams eye their shot at the overall crown.

The main cup quarterfinals will feature Nakuru, Nondies, Blak Blad, Strathmore Leos, and Daystar Falcons, who also progressed through the pool stages. However, the spotlight remains on Quins and Kabras, as these two teams are set to define the final chapter of the 2024 circuit.
