Diamond League: Letsile Tebogo claims 200m victory as Kenny Bednarek sets personal best

Reigning Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo has continued his winning streak to claim the win in the men’s 200m at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich.

The Motswana sprinter clocked an impressive 19.55 seconds as Kenny Bednarek came in second, setting a personal best time of 19.57 seconds. Erriyon Knighton came in third, crossing the finish line in a time of 19.79 seconds.

The 21-year-old started off the blocks steadily and capitalised on that to claim the win, going unbeaten in the 200m since the Paris Olympic Games where he stunned triple world champion Noah Lyles to take the Olympic crown.

In the race, Kenny Bednarek came in second in style as Lyles, fresh from winning the men’s 100m Olympic title, completed the podium, citing COVID-19 as the reason behind his dismal show.

After his Olympics exploits, the world 100m silver medallist proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne where he won the 200m before continuing his winning streak to the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia where he won the 200m.

The world 200m bronze medallist was on fire, racing at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome where he claimed the win in the men’s 100m, beating a strong field.
