Sasha Zhoya takes advantage of Grant Holloway’s absence to claim top honours in Rome

Frenchman Sasha Zhoya claimed victory in the 110m hurdles after running a tactical race at the Rome Diamond League on Friday.

Zhoya looked like he could miss out on the podium places but unleashed a devastating finishing kick to claim victory in a time of 13.19 seconds.

He finished ahead of Spaniard Asier Martinez, who clocked 13.27 for second place, as Jamaican Omar McLeod stopped the clock at 13.28 to finish third.

In the absence of Olympics champion Grant Holloway, who has dominated the race this season, the rest of the cast took advantage to get Diamond League points on the board with one leg remaining before the season finale in Brussels.

They displayed a great race with Martinez looking like he would clinch it before Zhoya stole it at the death.
