Two-time Olympic 400m hurdles champion and world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is set to take the spotlight at the Diamond League final in Brussels, aiming for an audacious double in both the 400m and 200m.
McLaughlin-Levrone, who recently solidified her place in history with a breathtaking world record at the Paris Olympics, will be the main attraction on September 13th and 14th as she races in what is expected to be her only appearance since her Olympic triumph.
“The greatest athlete of the year who produced a historic world record at the Paris Olympics will race both the 400m (Friday) and the 200m (Saturday) at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme!,” the organizers announced.
“This is her first (and only!) appearance after the Paris Olympics, so don’t miss this unique opportunity to see her in action on both Friday and Saturday nights.”
This unexpected move comes on the heels of Olympic women’s 400-meter hurdles medalist Femke Bol’s sudden withdrawal from the Zurich Diamond League meeting due to illness.
At just 25 years old, McLaughlin-Levrone has maintained an unbeaten streak since her last loss at the 2019 World Championships, a remarkable achievement that speaks volumes about her mental fortitude and physical prowess.
